Power Outages Australia

Always free for customers

Is your power out? Find out in one place.

Australia has around 17 electricity distributors. Which one supplies you depends on where you live — not who you pay. Most people only find out when the lights go off. We bring their outage information together, so you don't have to.

Planned and unplanned outages · No account needed · Free to use

The problem isn't a lack of information. It's that it's scattered.

of them is yours

And it isn't your energy retailer. Most people can't name their distributor.

What we do

We collect outage information that distributors already publish, normalise it into one consistent format, and show it on a single map you can search by suburb or postcode.

  • Both kinds of outage. Unplanned faults and planned maintenance, so you know whether it's a surprise or something scheduled.
  • Publicly available data. We aggregate what distributors publish, and always attribute it back to them.
  • No account, no cost — ever. Checking whether your power is out is free, and always will be. There's nothing to sign up for.

In development — not yet operating

Three ways to ask. Never a queue.

When a storm hits, everyone asks at once — and that's exactly when the phone lines jam. Contact centres are sized for an average day, not the worst night of the year, so people wait on hold when they most need an answer.

We're building something different: the same outage information available three ways — on this website, through a chat assistant, or by calling one national number answered by AI voice agents. No human contact centre, no fixed number of seats, so capacity grows with demand instead of running out.

On the web

Search your suburb or postcode and get the answer in seconds. Available now.

By chat

Ask in plain language and get a straight answer back. In development.

By phone

One number, wherever you live, answered straight away. In development.

Built so you never wait

Because there are no human agents, there are no seats to run out of. The system is designed to scale to tens of thousands of conversations at the same time and grow with demand — so a storm that floods every other line doesn't put you on hold.

This service is not yet operating. Until it is, contact your distributor directly, and call 000 in an emergency.

Work for a distributor?

Send us your outage data once, and it reaches your customers on the web, by chat and by phone. Route your outage line to our AI voice agents and your customers stop waiting on hold — however many of them call at once.
